Tail End for iOS
Where do the numbers come from?
From United Nations World Population Prospects 2024 life tables, covering 238 countries and territories. The tables are bundled inside the app and read locally — nothing is fetched. You choose which country's table to use in Settings; by default the app follows your device's region.
Are these predictions about me or the people I add?
No. They are population averages. Tail End deliberately never shows a predicted date. It shows only how much of a shared span has already passed, and roughly how much is left.
Why does the percentage differ for a parent and a friend?
What runs out depends on the relationship. For a parent or grandparent it is bounded by their remaining lifespan. For a partner, sibling or friend it is whoever goes first, so it uses joint survival. For a young child the headline is their childhood at home, with your shared lifetime as the fainter layer behind it.
Why does my young child show a high percentage?
For a young child the headline figure is their childhood at home, which completes at the leaving age you set on their profile (18 by default). You can change that age when you edit them.
Where is my data kept?
On your device only. There is no account and no server. The app contains no networking code at all, so nothing can leave your phone.
How do I move to a new phone?
Open Settings, choose Export a backup, pick a password and save the file wherever you like. On the new phone, choose Restore from backup. Keep the password safe: it is not stored anywhere, and without it the backup cannot be opened by you or by anyone else.
I have a backup from the Flutter version. Will it work?
Yes. Tail End reads backups made by the earlier Flutter build as well as its own. New backups it creates use stronger encryption, so they are not readable by the older app.
Reminders are not arriving.
Check that Reminders is switched on in the app's Settings, and that notifications are allowed for Tail End in the iOS Settings app. Reminders are scheduled on your device, so they work with no connection.
How do I mark something on my life grid?
Open the Life tab and tap the plus button. Give the moment a title, a date and a colour, and it appears as a marked week. Tap any marked week to see what happened, or tap an empty row to see that whole year.
Can I use the app in Icelandic?
Yes. Tail End follows your device language and fully supports English and Icelandic.
