The short version: Start Smaller does not collect, transmit, sell or share personal data. What you write or say, and the steps it gives you, stay on your iPhone.
The App Store privacy label for Start Smaller is “Data Not Collected”. The app has no account and no server, and it makes no network requests.
What is stored on your iPhone
Start Smaller keeps your current session (the task you wrote or said and its steps) and your settings, such as theme, appearance, sound and pulse preferences. They are stored only in the app's protected storage on your iPhone and are excluded from iCloud and computer backups. A session that is more than a day old is cleared when you next open or return to the app, and returning to the start screen clears it too. If a saved session ever can't be read, a recovery copy is kept in the same protected, non-backed-up storage until you remove the app.
Microphone and speech
If you choose to say your task out loud, the app uses the microphone and Apple's speech recognition in on-device mode only. Audio is turned into text on your iPhone and is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. If on-device recognition is not available for your language, the app tells you and you can type instead. You can withdraw microphone or speech access at any time in iOS Settings.
Steps made on your device
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, Start Smaller can ask Apple's on-device language model to suggest steps for your task. This happens entirely on your iPhone. Otherwise the app uses its built-in offline steps. You can turn the device model off in Settings.
The Lock Screen
While a step is active, the step can appear on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, where anyone who sees your phone can read it. You can turn this off in Settings at any time.
Accounts, analytics and advertising
Start Smaller has no account system, backend service, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, tracking technology or third-party data integration. The app works fully in Airplane Mode.
Purchase
Start Smaller is bought once through the App Store, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Apple processes the purchase under its own privacy policy. The app receives no personal or payment details from it.
Deleting your data
Returning to the start screen, after Stop here or the last step, clears the current session. Removing Start Smaller from your iPhone deletes everything it stored. There is nothing else to delete, because nothing leaves the device.
Children
Start Smaller is a general self-help tool and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy declaration will be updated before the changed version is released.
